Blizzard Entertainment to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III next year.

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that it will remove the gold and real-money auction house system from on March 18, 2014.

"When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades," Blizzard production director John Hight said in a .

"But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot," he added. "With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III."

Hight said that the closing of the Diablo III auction houses, along with the , will result in a "much more rewarding game experience for our players."

He further explained that Blizzard is still "working out the details" regarding how it will close the Diablo III auction house system. The reason for announcing its closure six months ahead of time is to "give everyone as much advance notice as possible," Hight said.

"We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process," he said.

Review: Diablo 3 (PS3) | Digitally Downloaded

Added: 17.09.2013 5:23 | 1 views | 0 comments

Digitally Downloaded writes: "Back when Diablo III was released on the PC, I think we lost sight of the reason we as a gaming collective love Diablo. Amongst the controversy of an always-online requirement for the single player game that, at launch, didn't work so well, people got upset with the business model, and the game suffered in terms both critical and public perception. It's unfortunate because Diablo III is a darned fine game, and the PlayStation 3 version will hopefully restore some faith in the franchise by those more upset with Blizzard than Diablo."

Connected Digital World - Diablo III[Console] Review

CDW:Rather tragically I never played Diablo III until its recent console début. That being said I dont live under a rock and knew what to expect from Diablo III. As far as I see it there will be PC based Diablo veterans eager to know how the game has ported to a console and console based Diablo noobs, such as myself, looking forward to finally finding out what all the fuss is about. I imagine its going to be a difficult task to convince PC Diablo III players to convert to a console version over a year after the games launch so Im going to concentrate on those out there like me who are new to Diablo III.

Review: Diablo III (DarkZero)

Added: 16.09.2013 14:19 | 6 views | 0 comments

DarkZero's Dominic writes "Diablo III for PC was a huge launch for the platform. I remember being stuck waiting for an hour and 30 minutes just to be able to login to Blizzard.net and create my character. The launch was a mess, but even so, once the kinks were ironed out, Diablo III went onto sell over 12 million copies and become one of the most successful games on PC. It only makes sense for Blizzard to capitalise on the Diablo brand and bring it to consoles.  People know the name Diablo, and some of the older gamers might remember the original Diablo getting a PlayStation port - a port that suffered from a bad interface, poor controls and other numerous problems. It wasn't exactly a port to be proud of. This time around though, that issue isn't there; Diablo III is a brilliant adaptation to the controller that has been given the love and care it needs to make it succeed on consoles."

GX - "There's a reason I'm still fond of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, loot, loot and more loot coupled with a lot of action. There are times I want a game where I can combine my love of different tactics with pure adrenaline-soaked fantasy violence."
